Chaos Creates Opportunity, but Doing the Right Thing Makes a Difference
Some eld ago, my daughter and I raised money to send books to schools in Kenya and Tanzania. We were able to send about a quarter of a million dollars worth of books to a few boys and girls schools in those countries. That is where it began. Thereafter, we matured relationships with a former president of a fortune 500 consort who built hospitals and clinics. Along the way, he continuing to cater schools, paying for students to go to college, erected industrialized chicken coops, purchased items same tractors for tea farms, furniture and much more. Once we became involved in the business of sending supplies to schools, it became evident that scrutiny needs were a higher priority. The next shipments, were paying for by individual dweller accord who sent suites of products to birthing clinics, dispensaries, hospitals and an orphanages. These were not diminutive shipments, but they were large well planned distributions. Some shipments included things same twenty anaesthesia machines, entire surgery suites, waiting rooms, incubators, beds supplies for maternity wards, scrutiny libraries and even a burn unit for a hospital in the maximal slum in Nairobi. For a few years, these accord paying for a warehouse to store and distribute supplies and equipment to hospitals and clinics free of charge. Our friends in the scrutiny accord utilised their vacations and resources to foregather rural communities to rank needs assessments, create specifications and to inspect facilities after installations occurred. Today some of these facilities are as nice as some in some wealthier nations. Being a diminutive part of this experience was chronicle changing. A few eld ago, the dweller businessmen, their friends and families, built an condition to concern handicapped children in a town called Soy. When they arrived for the grand opening, they were greeted by thousands of children, townspeople and older friends. On that day, thousands of members of the Soy accord concentrated to sit under tarps propped up by sticks to celebrate chronicle and mass. After mass, there were speeches made by politicians, a ribbon cutting ceremony and a luncheon. The accord made an important decision that week. They decided to raise the condition kitchen and water cater facilities at the orphanage. They were preparing facilities to hold around digit hundred orphans. They desired the utilities supplying the diminutive stock to be more substantial. The men also decided to physique a faith for the towns people. The faith was to be sacred to a dear friend, who had recently lost her battle with cancer. They intellection that she would hit liked this plan. Shortly thereafter, corrupt elections led to civil unrest. Longstanding tribal unrest led to political instability and ethnic chaos. Much of the money, that was slated for the faith was redirected to cater tents, food and clothing for members of the accord who lost their homes and feared their neighbors. At night the women and children of Soy slept in a fenced enclosure around the condition while the men patrolled the perimeters. This operation for activity required sacrifice, coordination and great dedication and focus. Outside the confines of the accord corruption and hostility prevailed. During the day, women carried on daily chronicle activities such as cooking, cleaning and caring for children. While women and children were in the light of period they worked and played safely in the confines of the grounds. At night they safely rested. The men utilized the sleeping facilities, during the daylight hours, to rest up for their night watchmen duties. In hindsight the decision to physique an industrialized capableness kitchen and utility upgrades were choices that changed the course of events for the entire village. The raise of facilities saved and supported an entire accord for a very longtime. As the civil unrest waned, people gradually filed backwards into their own homes and communities. Again, some of the money, saved to physique the church, was redirected for seeds to plant and take the community. Today, the seeds are planted and the crops are ontogeny and nourishing the accord of Soy. The dweller businessmen, are ease committed to this community, and are ease moving forward as planned. The faith is almost complete. A roof is being erected and windows are being installed. The children, families and people of Soy will presently hit a locate to meet, discuss community events and physique community. It was a daylong travelling and more difficult and expensive than expected for all involved. The ironic abstract about this news is that it is not a sprite tale. These accord and this accord is not connected with government officials, or large organizations same the Gates and Clinton Foundations. They are just lawful people doing the right thing. |
